OWN's Grundtvig Workshop 2011

In December 2010 OWN was successful in a grant application to Leargas to host the first Irish Grundtvig Workshop.

The workshop "Laughing Matters - The Benefits of Health Education through Laughter" took place from June 13th to June 18th. Participants from France, Germany, The Netherland, Roumania, Portugal , UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland took part.

Who is Leargas?

Léargas is a not-for-profit organisation that operates under the aegis of the Department of Education and Skills and the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs. Léargas manages European, national and international exchange and cooperation programmes in education, training and youth and community work and has been managing such programmes for over 20 years.

Leargas also works with colleagues in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The National Centre for Guidance in Education, based in Prussia St, Dublin, operates under the aegis of Léargas. Leargas administers Comenius, Leonardo de Vinci and Erasmus projects in addition to Grundtvig.

What is Grundtvig?

Grundtvig funds training opportunities for EU adult education organisations, staff & adult learners. There are a number of various grants available for adult education. OWN was successful in their application to host the first workshop funded in Ireland.

General Information

The aim is for workshops to be fun and interactive events, where learners have the opportunity to share their experiences and develop their own learning.

Key Information

  1. The 2011 deadline for Learner Workshops funding has now passed.
  2. The next deadline is 21 February 2012.
  3. Workshops last between 5 – 10 days and are on a variety of themes.
  4. Any EU citizen over 18 can apply for a workshop
  5. Each workshop should have 10-20 learners from other participating countries.
  6. No more than a third of participants should be from any one country.
