A Network for Midlife & Older Women
The Older Women’s Network was delighted to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day with a presentation from Mary Russell, Travel author and Writer at the Temple Bar Hotel, Dublin on Tuesday last March 8th.
Over 60 OWN members from all over the country attended the event which was most entertaining. Mary spoke at length about three women who influenced her in her life Margery Kempe circa 1400, Ann Davison, first woman to sail solo across the Atlantic in 1954 and Sister Sarah, the nun who taught her Art in school and who subsequently went have a night club named after her. Mary amused the audience with anecdotes regarding getting the wrong end of the stick as a result of hearing loss from which she has suffered since her teens. At the end of the presentation Mary entertained the membership with a performance on her saxophone - beautifully executed and mentioned she will be performing with the group "Dust of your Trumpets" in the National Concenrt Hall in May as part of the Bealtine festival. OWN members really enjoyed the event and our thanks to Mary for being so generous with her time.
