For this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness month Breastlight, the leading breast screening device for self examination, has teamed up with the Older Women’s Network to promote this innovative and early warning detection device.

A recent trial by Sunderland City Hospital Trust found that Breastlight detected 12 out of 18 malignant tumours, ranging in size from 7mm to 2cm, including ones that went undetected during a physical exam.

Mr Obi Iwuchukwu, Consultant Breast Surgeon, Sunderland City Hospital said: “It appears that Breastlight is effective in the detection of malignant tumours and in some cases can differentiate between malignant and benign disease. This device will prove to be of particular value to women who experience difficulty in self examination – for example those with a history of recurrent cysts.”
